Child Abuse Report and Suicidal Ideation

Welcome

Welcome to CarSi - Child Abuse (CAR) and Suicidal Ideation (SI) Reporting.

Where a School District employee has reason to believe a child has been, is being, or is likely to be abused and may need protection from a person who is not an employee shall immediately, where reasonably practicable, make a verbal report to the Ministry of Children and Families (MCFD) at 1-800-663-9122.  If the child is of Aboriginal ancestry the report should be directed to Fraser Valley Aboriginal Children and Family Services Society (FVACFSS) at toll free 1-866-851-4619.  In rare situations, the administrator (or employee) may verbally report an allegation of suspected child abuse to the RCMP (911) where there is "reason to believe that the child is in immediate serious danger".  Immediate serious danger is defined by the fact that the student is in imminent risk of being harmed if they return home.

It is beneficial to open a CAR report prior to calling the appropriate authorities.  Complete all of the sections of the form related to the student and nature of the disclosure.  Keep this screen open when the call is made so that you have all of the necessary information readily available.  Keeping the screen open will also allow you to fill in details such as: the name of the intake worker and any proposed actions.  Once the form is completed, you can submit it to the District.

As soon as possible, staff should also inform their principal that a report has been made.  Principals will automatically receive the notification that a form has been submitted, but communicating in person is still best practice.

As all staff can access their submitted reports, staff are directed not print a copy of the document or keep any copies in the school.  If you have any questions or concerns, please speak with the administrator on contact the District Principal of Student Support Services.

Please note: if the suspected child abuse involves a staff person, the form A process is still in effect. The form A document can be accessed here. If you need assistance, contact the Director of Human Resources.
